A Christmas Ham

sitting in my mom's kitchen this Christmas morning and having breakfast
what comes along, but a wild boar!
it's running behind her lanai
in the middle of a Florida subdivision
and he's even wearing a Santa hat of all things!
okay, he wasn't really wearing the hat, but I couldn't resist

here are some other run by shootings that I got as we jumped in the car to follow him (or her)

we lost him as he ran across the street and onto the community golf course.
you can't really  tell by these photos, but he was huge and probably weighed at least 200 lbs.

Have you ever had any unusual Christmas occurrences?

She Knew....

i think she knew
i needed this gift
that's because of the type of friend
 she has become

this gift
meant the world to me
when i opened it this morning
 it gave me
back something
that was slipping away

thank you

It's Beginning to Look.....

                                                                                                                        It's Christmas Time Again!

                                                                                                                        Put your problems on probation
Run your troubles off the track,
Throw your worries out the window
Get the monkeys off your back.
                                                                                                                            Silence all your inner critics
                                                                                                                         With your conscience make amends,
                                                                                                                       And allow yourself some happiness
                                                                                                                          It's Christmas time again!

Call a truce with those who bother you
                                                                                                                       Let all the fighting cease,
                                                                                                                    Give your differences a breather
And declare a time of peace,
                                                                                                                    Don't let angry feelings taint
The precious time you have to spend,
                                                                                                                    And allow yourself some happiness
                                                                                                                    It's Christmas time again!

                                                                                                                  Like some cool refreshing water
                                                                                                                Or a gentle summer breeze,
Like a fresh bouquet of flowers
Or the smell of autumn leaves,
It's a banquet for the spirit
Filled with family, food and friends,
                                                                                                                So allow yourself some happiness
                                                                                                                   It's Christmas time again!

Game Time!

if you've been following me for any length of time, you know i'm into challenges
i love interaction between bloggers
and i love games
so i've come up with another one i hope you will enjoy

this one's called....

The Rules:
you have to describe something in 10 words
not 5 or 6 or 11 words ~ exactly 10 words
the trick is not to make the sentence too easy or too difficult to figure out
it's not quite as easy as it may sound, at least not for me.
but it's fun!

okay, once you come up with your "What Is It" sentence
make a post of it on your blog
then link up to the Blog Hop below and grab the Blog Hop Code to include the hop on your blog as well
if you don't use "Comment Moderation",  make sure to turn it on for awhile,
so everyones guesses will be hidden.
whenever you feel you've received all the comments you're going to get
reveal the comments by accepting them
and also give the answer in your post

it will be fun to see how many people guess it correctly
and also seeing the incorrect answers

should be fun, no?

let's give it a try!

Here's mine.....

rushing down with overwhelming power suddenly it dies into serenity

Since this is a new game, I'll keep this post up for a couple of days before I post again,
so you all can have some time to join in!

Pleasant Surprises

just as this box
pokes its head
above the wintered grays
with a surprise of color
i received a
surprise phone call
this morning
from a blog friend
across the sea!

how it took a mundane morning
and made it bright and cheerful
thank you Dave!

what pleasant surprises have you experienced lately?

One Word Wednesday ~ Gift

First, let me say thank you, once again, to Sally G for hosting One Word Wednesday's for the past 3 weeks!
I greatly appreciated the time off during my travels and knowing that our group of participants in OWW were in good hands.  I absolutely love her implementing the Blog Hop!  What a fantastic way to share your posts with your blog pals and spread the Wednesday fun even further!

This week's word...

made me think of nature's gifts, even though we're in the midst of the holidays.
The gift of my Nikon last January has made me even more aware of the small gifts Mother Nature
sprinkles around for all of us to enjoy throughout the year, if we take the time to notice them.
Her gifts are waiting to be appreciated anytime day or night, summer or winter,
and come in all shapes and sizes.

such as....

the little hummingbird that sits upon a tree limb guarding his treasured sweet red beverage
:: :: ::
the golden leaf that is illuminated by a setting sun
:: :: ::
the spider intricately weaving its perfect web
:: :: ::
the full moon casting its glorious beam through a window pane
:: :: ::
little buds trying to break open to show off their beautiful colors inside
:: :: ::
the puddle that reflects shimmering leaves or piece of architecture
:: :: ::
the ripples of a body of water creating a work of modern art

I discovered all these little gifts plus many more throughout the year
and have them safely stored so I can enjoy them whenever I choose.
And whenever I want to add to my collection, all I have to do is make sure to look closely.

The photo above was an unexpected surprise that was waiting for me on a fallen tree trunk.

Do you collect Mother Nature's little gifts?

Okay, now it's time for the fun to begin by adding your own post for the weekly Blog Hop.

Share your thoughts on the word "Gift" and what the word means to you by linking up below.
Please also join the blog hop by posting the Linky Blog Hop tool to your blog post as well!

Barn...Sky...Bird & Color Watching

Here's a little taste of the beauty we experienced on our trip up to New England for Thanksgiving....

Barn Watching
(all taken flying past at 80 mph)
I think I fell in love with the Shenandoah Valley (Walker ~ I'm Jealous!)

It was a great trip that just went too quickly!

I'm Back...well sorta

I'm coming clean...
I've been on vacation up in Connecticut visiting family, if you hadn't already figured out that I wasn't home.
I just don't like advertising that sort of thing on the internet, if you catch my drift.

Since Simon is now blind as a bat, we therefore can't ask anyone to look after him anymore,
so we took him along and drove all the way up there
(that's one long ass drive from GA to CT!)
and he did so much better than we anticipated.
That little guy never ceases to amaze us!

I took loads of pics but have had no time to transfer them to the computer yet.
I'm playing lots of catch up, so it will be a few more days until I'm back in the swing of things
and I'll be sure to share some of my faves with all of you.

Many thanks to Sally G. for taking over One Word Wedneday's during my absence!
I hope you enjoyed her warm and welcoming posts...I certainly do!

I missed you guys!

And to all of my friends and family who celebrate....

One Word Wednesday ~ YOU'RE IN FOR SOME FUN!!

You've probably noticed I haven't posted or been to see you over the past several days.
Well, to put it in a nutshell, I've been too busy.  And, with Thanksgiving coming up, my attentions will
be shifting to family fun and lots of eating, help me out
Sally @ Sally G. has generously agreed to take over
One Word Wednesdays for three weeks, starting this week.
I'll be forever grateful ~ Thank you so much Sally!
Now treat her at least as nice as you treat me, if not nicer, okay!
And, she has a great word in store for you next week!
In fact, it's so good, I'm going to try my hardest to play along, if that's in any way possible.
OMG...I just read her post ~ you guys are going to have FUN!!

So, without any further ado....
please CLICK HERE to visit Sally
 for this week's word
and to link up!

d y n a m i c

(my apologies to Vickie for not having the time to come up with a post)

I'll see you back here in four Wednesdays!

One More Note:  Sally will be tied up (no, not physically) all day Wednesday, so she'll be visiting all participants on Thursday.

When we came back to Atlanta from being at the lake this past weekend
our neighborhood turkey was waiting for us in our yard.
I grabbed my camera, which was of course in the car with us, and I started shooting away.
She didn't mind me getting close, although she did begin making odd turkey noises
which I guess meant "keep your distance, or else"!
The first time we saw her was at least 4 or 5 years ago.
We don't see her very often, but she does have a tendency to pop up right before Thanksgiving.
Of course, we think she's asking for it, but it never fails she returns to the hood a few months later.

Well, check out this adventurous little guy to see how he was put in his place for straying!

One Word Wednesday ~ Connect

this week's word

 c o n n e c t

mostly made me think of relationships
and the connection of people

how spouses connect with one another
how parents connect with their children
how friends can meet and form an instant connection
that is difficult to explain
 but easy to feel

and i can probably speak for more than just myself
about the connection i feel with my blog buddies
even though i have never met any of you in person

to connect with other people
makes us a part of something bigger than just ourselves
it can also give a feeling of warmth and security
like a snuggly blanket
on a cold winter's night

what are your thoughts on this week's word?

please join in by adding a link to your post below

chosen by
Vickie @ Nature's Details

that should be very interesting...
looking forward to seeing your spin on it next week!

We're Here!

The beauteous pansies rise
  In purple, gold, and blue,
    With tints of rainbow hue
      Mocking the sunset skies.
- Thomas John Ouseley,
        The Angel of the Flowers

I just love when winter pansies
pop their little heads up
as though they're stretching their long necks
trying to make sure they don't go unnoticed

In our area, if the temps don't get too cold
they will show off their colors all winter long
but, as much as I enjoy seeing their perky blooms on a dreary day
I would still prefer to see a bit more of the white stuff around here!

how do you "connect"?  check in on wednesday!

Jillsy's Kitchen ~ Crazy Chicken

it's been awhile since i've added to my online "easy as all get-out" cookbook
so here's another super simple recipe
and always a crowd pleaser...

I'm not sure how it got its name, but it might be due to the fact it's so crazy delicious and simple!

4-6 Chicken Breasts (cut in halves)
and the following....

1 - 11oz. can mandarin oranges
1 - 16oz. can whole cranberry sauce
1 packet dry onion soup mix
8 oz. French Dressing (I substitute Sweet Honey Catalina)

mix it all up

place your pieces of chicken
in a piece of bakeware
large enough to hold it all (obviously)
and then smother them
with the cranberry concoction you just stirred up

cover it with a lid
and bake at 325 for one hour and 45 minutes (give or take)
or until you just can't take the yummy aroma coming from the kitchen anymore
without dishin' it up and serving it

it will be all bubbly when done

by the can't forget this....about 15 minutes before serving, cook up some Minute Rice to
serve this dish over....the rice will soak up all the extra saucy goodness so you can enjoy every last drop!

the chicken should be juicy and very tender from cooking it slowly at the 325 temp

Bon Appetit!

One Word Wednesday - Retreat

this photograph was taken a couple of years ago
but when Sally G gave us the word "retreat"
for this week's One Word Wednesday
my mind went immediately to it

six years ago we purchased
a weekend  getaway on a pristine lake
a little over two hours from our home in Atlanta

we fell in love with the fresh country air
the breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains
the stunning sunsets
and last but not least
the rest and relaxation

it is most definitely our retreat
from city life
and one we look forward to every chance we get

i have to say....
this shot says it all

do you have a personal retreat?

please join in below by adding your thoughts on the word...

Stop the Insanity....

            Rose Hips
the photo has nothing to do with this post other than having the colors red and green

 to jump on
 Suldog's bandwagon
 because of something that
happened this week, believe it or
not, we received a Christmas card
 on October 25th
pretty ridiculous, huh? it didn't come from
a company trying to earn our business but from a family
member. anyone who knows me will obviously figure out
that it did not come from
someone in my family but that's all i will say on that matter
so now we have a Christmas card
that will be on display for the next two months because that's
what happens when one receives a Christmas card, no?
all other cards have a shelf life of what ~ two or three weeks tops?
how can one toss a Christmas card out before the holiday actually arrives?
the insanity must stop or we'll be
finding ourselves receiving Christmas cards all year round in years to come
and then it will be presents arriving in the mail in June and standing in the ever
dreaded return lines. so if you can sympathize with this
growing epidemic please visit Suldog and tell him Jillsy Girl sent you

River of Dreams

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

 ~ Billy Joel ~

I Can Hear You Now....

a low ceiling blankets the hillside
rain pelting the windshield
a nasty morning it was
but reaching it's head out
above it all
i could almost hear the question....

can you hear you now?

so what's your "passion"?
